Step 1: Finding the Nectar

The Chemical Transformation

Moisture Reduction

Fresh nectar is about 80% water β€” far too wet to store. Bees need to reduce the moisture content to below 18% to prevent fermentation. The receiver bee spreads the nectar in a thin film across the comb, exposing maximum surface area to the air.
